LA GALAXY OPEN 2009 MLS SEASON ON MARCH 22: The 14TH Season of Major League Soccer will begin for the LA Galaxy on Sunday, March 22 when they host four-time MLS Cup champions D.C. United. That game will kick-off at 12 p.m. and be broadcast live on Telefutura and Fox Sports West. The game will also be carried live on the radio in English on AM 570 and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes Radio KWKW 1330. In 2008, the Galaxy beat the United 5-2 at The Home Depot Center, giving Bruce Arena his first win as the Galaxy's head coach. Also this month, it's time to introduce the 2009 LA Galaxy players and coaches to the fans, sponsors and media and get ready for the start of the new season at the LA Galaxy Kickoff Luncheon at the Manhattan Beach Marriott on Thursday, March 19 at 12 p.m. The event includes lunch, a short program, a special gift, as well as insight on the upcoming season from General Manager/Head Coach Bruce Arena and your favorite Galaxy players. OPENING DAY JUST AROUND THE CORNER FOR CHIVAS USA, STARTING SEASON ON MARCH 21: Chivas USA is ready to start its fifth season in Major League Soccer, and will kick off on Opening Day at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. against the Colorado Rapids. Fans shouldn't miss this chance to see the Red-and-White begin its quest for a fourth-straight spot in the playoffs. LOS ANGELES SOL OPEN TRAINING CAMP; PREPARE FOR WPS INAUGURAL MATCH: With three-time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta set to join a star-studded roster already featuring three U.S. National Team members, including Torrance native Shannon Boxx, the Los Angeles Sol opened their first-ever training camp on Monday, March 2 at The Home Depot Center. This weekend, get a special sneak peak of L.A.'s newest professional team at SolFest this Sunday, March 8 at The Home Depot Center from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Fans will have the chance to meet the team, tour the locker rooms, win prizes and audition to sing the National Anthem at a match this season. Admission is free for Sunday's SOLFest. U.S. WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM UPDATE: With the U.S. Women's National Team in Portugal this month for the 2009 Algarve Cup, the month will be a quiet one for the U.S. Women's National Teams at The Home Depot Center. The U.S. Under-17 Women's National Team will be in camp in Carson from Feb. 28-March 6 as part of early preparations for the 2010 U-17 Women's World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago. The full National Team won their first Algarve Cup match over Denmark, 2-0, and tomorrow, will face Iceland, and finish Group B play with Norway on March 9. The U.S. will play a placement match on March 11 and then the players will return to the U.S. and report directly to their Women's Professional Soccer clubs, including several to the Los Angeles Sol, which will play its matches at The Home Depot Center. PHINNEY BREAKS TWO U.S. RECORDS IN DENMARK: ADT Event Center rider Taylor Phinney scored big at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Denmark. Phinney won both the 4,000-meter individual pursuit and the men's kilometer time trial, setting two new national records. Earlier this week, Phinney was named to USA Cycling's four-person squad for the upcoming 2009 UCI Track World Championships in Poland at the end of March. Phinney earned an automatic nomination to contest both the men's 4,000-meter individual pursuit and the kilometer time trial because of his marks at the Denmark World Cup. In other cycling news, regional racing continues at the ADT Event Center on March 14 and 27 with the LA Velodrome Omnium Series. USTA HOSTS COACHES CLINIC IN MARCH: Jose Higueras, Director of Coaching for USTA Player Development, will hold a Coaches Clinic on March 28 at the USTA Training Center-West at The Home Depot Center. The clinic will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and is open to all coaches who work with junior players. Higueras will discuss his coaching method and strategies and will lay out his views on what makes a successful teaching method for junior players.
