Since its grand opening on June 1, 2003, Dignity Health Sports Park has hosted some of the most prestigious national and international competitions, reflecting Southern California’s rich sporting legacy. Committed to fostering character development through competition, the park also prioritizes minimizing its environmental footprint. Our sustainability initiatives focus on energy and water conservation, recycling, sourcing environmentally preferable products, and raising awareness of environmental challenges. Additionally, Dignity Health Sports Park's dedication to athletics and training extends to the surrounding communities, embodying our commitment to a healthier, more sustainable future.

Environmental Policy

At Dignity Health Sports Park, we believe that every team member and partner plays a role in protecting the environment. We are committed to continuously improving our environmental performance and aligning our efforts in support of AEG Sustainability's overarching goals, while fostering a culture of responsibility across our campus.

Our Environmental Policy includes:

SAFETY We put safety first and are prepared for environmental emergencies. We comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies, and work proactively to identify and address potential environmental risks.

RESPONSIBILITY We recognize our shared responsibility to minimize our environmental footprint. We encourage all team members and partners to actively participate in our sustainability efforts and to integrate environmentally considerate practices into their day-to-day operations.

COMMUNITY We are responsive to the environmental concerns and interests of our surrounding community, guests, employees, and partners. We strive to be a positive environmental steward in the Carson community and across Southern California.

EFFICIENCY We are committed to the responsible use of natural resources, including energy, water, and materials. We continuously seek opportunities to reduce waste, increase recycling and composting, and make environmentally preferable purchasing decisions that support a more sustainable operation.

CLIMATE ACTION We support efforts to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, embracing clean energy solutions, participating in AEG's global sustainability commitments, and being a longtime proud member of the Green Sport Alliance.

INSPIRATION We use the power of sports and live events to share our environmental story and inspire our guests, fans, and partners to join us in protecting the planet for future generations.

Energy

Stem Energy Storage sustainability image 1.png
The Stem system utilizes a 1-megawatt Tesla battery at Dignity Health Sports Park to store energy for use during high-demand periods, helping balance energy usage and maintain reliable operations. Powered by AI, it intelligently manages energy flow and adapts to changing conditions. As part of a larger energy storage network, it also contributes to a cleaner, more resilient grid by supporting the integration of renewable energy sources like solar.

Enhancing Sustainable Energy Management sustainability 2 image.png

Dignity Health Sports Park has the following technologies and policies in place focused on controlling and managing our electrical consumption:

  • Motion sensors throughout the facilities save energy by ensuring lights remain off when not in use.
  • Dignity Health Sports Park was the first MLS soccer-specific stadium to utilize LED stadium lights. The LA Galaxy’s LED stadium lights have reduced our electricity consumption by over 9% and peak load by almost 16%.
  • New and upgraded LED lights in the Soccer Stadium and Parking Lots consume 60% less energy than the lighting they replaced.

Water

Dignity Health Sports Park implements several water conservation measures to reduce potable water use and promote sustainable operations, including:

  • Recycled water is used for field irrigation, reducing potable water use by 33%.
  • Water-saving fixtures throughout the site—including waterless urinals, low-flow toilets, and faucet aerators to reduce water consumption.
  • Staff are trained in water-efficient practices to minimize water use during cleaning and daily operations.

Waste

Dignity Health Sports Park actively advances sustainability through a variety of initiatives that reduce waste and support the local community.

  • In partnership with Copia™, unused and excess food from game days is recovered and donated to those in need across Los Angeles. The program donated over 1.5 tons of edible surplus in 2025.
  • Through the Protect the Pitch campaign, launched in 2024, the club addresses environmental and social issues by implementing recycling programs with the LA Galaxy Academy and SA Recycling, encouraging fan participation during events, and reinvesting collected funds into equipment drives for local schools and the surrounding community. For more information about the Protect the Pitch program, visit lagalaxy.com/community/protectthepitch.
  • Additionally, more than 200,000 pounds of waste was diverted from landfills during the 2024 off-season renovation projects, reinforcing the stadium’s commitment to responsible operations.

Dignity Health Sports Park works with various partners to separate and divert waste from landfills. Some of these items include bottles, cans, cardboard, wood pallets, electronic waste, batteries, light bulbs, cooking grease, inedible food waste, landscaping debris, clothing, etc. The operations team is working constantly to expand programs and initiatives to divert more waste from landfills.

Health & Well-Being

Dignity Health Sports Park integrates sustainability, education, and community engagement through a variety of hands-on initiatives. Inside the Galaxy Garden, launched in 2016, there is an on-site greenhouse and vegetable garden that supplies fresh produce for the venue’s tenants. In partnership with the LA Galaxy Foundation and Herbalife Nutrition, the venue helps expand the Garden School Foundation’s Seed to Table School Program to local elementary schools in Carson, including Annalee and Leadwood Avenue Elementary. The garden also serves as an educational space, welcoming students for tours and learning experiences throughout the year. Beyond the garden, LA Galaxy and Dignity Health Sports Park employees volunteer in community initiatives such as tree planting and beach cleanups, while partnerships with local nonprofits drive annual events celebrating Earth Hour, Earth Day, California Clean Air Day, and America Recycles Day.

Transportation bikes.png

Dignity Health Sports Park continues to expand sustainable transportation options that reduce carbon emissions and make access to the venue more convenient for guests. The venue provides on-site bike racks for fans who choose to cycle to games. To further encourage eco-friendly travel, there are several bikes on site for staff and players to use to get around the facility instead of using exhaust emitting vehicles. Additionally, to promote the use of public transportation, Galaxy Express offers free, non-stop shuttle service to and from the park for every LA Galaxy home match.

Leadership and Recognition in Sustainable Sports

Dignity Health Sports Park and the LA Galaxy are proud leaders in advancing sustainability across the sports industry. Since 2018, they have been active members of the Green Sports Alliance, collaborating with venues and organizations nationwide to share the best environmental practices. The park also participates in AEG Sustainability, the company’s corporate environmental program, through which it tracks energy, water, and waste performance monthly and contributes to AEG’s overarching environmental goals.

Furthering its global commitment, AEG has joined the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework, aligning with international efforts to reduce emissions and use sports as a platform to drive climate awareness and action.
