The Basics:
The 2004 Home Depot Track & Field Invitational will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at The Home Depot Center on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, California, starting at noon. The meet will be the opening invitational of USA Track & Field's \"Golden Spike\" Series for 2004, with 14 elite events on the schedule and a prize purse of $140,000. The meet is sponsored by The Home Depot, ADT Security Services and adidas; USATF Golden Spike Tour sponsors include Verizon and Visa.

Tickets are $17, $25, and $40 for the small VIP section, available at all Ticketmaster outlets, through Ticketmaster's Charge-by-Phone network at (213) 480-3232, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, at The Home Depot Center's box office and the box office at TEAM LA at Universal CityWalk. The Meet:
\"See Athens Before It Happens!\" This is Southern California's opportunity to watch Olympic and world champion track and field athletes before seeing them on television this summer in Athens, Greece. Elite competition will be held in 14 events:
.. Men's 100 m, 400 m, 1500 m, 110 m Hurdles, Pole Vault, Long Jump, Shot Put
.. Women's 100 m, 400 m, 1500 m, 100 m Hurdles, High Jump, Pole Vault, Discus Throw
Prize money will be available for six places in all of these events with $12,000 ($6,000-3,000-1,500-750-
500-250) for the 100 m, men's 1500 m, women's 100 m Hurdles, women's Pole Vault and men's Shot
Put and $8,500 ($4,000-2,000-1,000-750-500-250) for the 400 m, men's 110 m Hurdles, Pole Vault and Long Jump and women's 1500 m, High Jump and Discus.
The meet will begin at noon with a parade of Olympians representing Games since Los Angeles in 1932, and include Olympic Development races in the 800 m and 400 m Hurdles for men and women. Rich Perelman serves as Meet Director and Bruce Tenen is the elite athlete coordinator.

More than three dozen Olympians from a dozen or more nations will appear in head-to-head competition
on the HDC's superfast nine-lane, Mondo Super-X track. Some of these athletes include:

.. 100 m - Maurice Greene, 2000 Olympic gold medalist, 1997-99-2001 World Champ, former
world-record holder, and last year's Home Depot Invitational winner against Olympic Trials favorite

.. 1500 m - 2002 U.S. 800 champ Nicole Teter says she wants to make the U.S. Olympic team in the
1500 also, she will have to prove it against North Carolina star Shalayne Flanagan and 2000
Olympian Shayne Culpepper.
